About

A genealogy and history blog exploring Caribbean ancestry, St. Kitts, Nevis, Anguilla, Jamaica, and British roots, and connections to American statesmen through archival research and narrative storytelling.

Who am I?

Moi

Hi, I’m Renée—history lover, documentary binger, and classroom veteran of the past 20 years. I’m a state certified teacher in NY, GA, CT and DE. I’ve taught just about every flavor of history you can imagine: U.S. History, World History, New York State History, African History, and African American History. If there’s a timeline involved, I’m in. I don’t just teach history—I watch documentaries for fun (yes, really). I was also an English Language Arts and Literature teacher for my entire tenure in the classroom.

I earned my BSEd with a minor in History (it would’ve been my major, but a girl needed to be paid 😄), so I went the practical route. Still, my love for the past never faded. In fact, it expanded—right into ancestry and genealogy. There’s something powerful about knowing where you come from and the stories that led you here.

So… why start this blog now? Why not now?!

And why St. Kitts? Because it’s home. I was born and raised on the island, and my family roots run deep. I can trace my ancestry there all the way back to my African born 6x great-grandmother—an incredible journey I can’t wait to share. Along the way, I’ll also spotlight connections to other islands like Anguilla, Jamaica, Trinidad, Montserrat, and our sister island, Nevis. Even though I’ve lived in the U.S. for almost 40 years, my heart is always attached to my island home.
